SA power prices are so expensive because they rely so much on gas fired generation. They largely switched to gas fired generation because of coal fired power closure roughly around the time that we started exporting LNG. Hence, demand for gas went up and gas prices tripled.
Various governments were warned that they should have created a domestic reserve, as WA did, and they ignored it.
That's why SA's power prices went through the roof.
I notice you didn't mention how SA's power prices are starting to fall now that renewables are really starting to take effect.
