Australia should take legitimate refugees as part of its role as a responsible global citizen. I think both sides of politics agree on this.
The difference is how Australia should treat the boat arrivals. The Coalition and the ALP and East Timor and now Malaysia don't seem to be in agreement.
Gillard should consult foreign governments before she announces solutions to this problem.
