RMIT University telecommunications expert and senior lecturer Mike Gregory said the policy wasn't a sensible answer to Australia's communications needs.
"This is the biggest lemon in Australia's history," Dr Gregory told AAP.
Do we really take any notice of these armchair critics? A senior lecturer and expert in Telecommunications...if he is such an "expert" and should be listened to, why doesn't his name appear at all in a google search? Even my name comes up in a google search!
Including other funding, the (Coalition plan) cost rises to $29.5 billion to complete the project by 2019, while Labor's project would be $44.1 billion to finish by 2021.
Absolute piffle...we know labor's grand plan has already passed $44.1 billion anyway, and how can they "project" a finished cost of $44.1 Billion anyway when NBN Co is fishing around for ways to save money and they have not got anywhere near their own projected targets?
I really don't know where these "critics" get off...the main critic according to the article is the "Government" and Conroy. Of course this buffoon will poo pah anything but his gigantic plan to spend some one else's money in a fashion never before seen in Australian history on something that will never be finished or deliver as promised.
I have just moved from a cable internet service to ADSL 2 due to cable not being available at the new premises. I used to get a download of around 18Mbps on cable, I am now averaging a download speed of 12 Mbps on ADSL2 which is fast enough to download movies in a few minutes and carry out my work on a server based in Perth. I really don't care if my screen refresh takes .27 seconds or .35 seconds!
Upload speed is a little slower but that is not a concern at all as I don't upload a lot of data.
If a hospital or some other service needs 100Mbps, fine give it to them with fibre optics as the tax payer is paying at the end of the day anyway. For the rest of us no big deal.
The whole argument of whether we need a speed of 20Mbps or 100Mbps is totally superfluous as only a tiny percentage of users would notice the difference anyway...that is if they had the hardware to cope with the speed in the first place.
The joke is on the tax payer here as far as I am concerned...
