"The Australian car industry has become political now. The end is inevitable. It will probably fall to a liberal government too pull the pin."
I don't think a Liberal, or any government, will pull the pin, effectively closing the car manufacturing industry in Australia.
It is in our national interest to have at least one car manufacturer in Australia. We need to have within Australia that technical know how. Also, it should not be 100% foreign-owned.
The current number of car manufacturers in this country is unsustainable. Our internal market is too small for that; our car export is not competitive due to our high costs structure.
I am certain that, whatever Hockey says, for the 2013 election it will not be Liberal policy to reduce financial aids to the car industry. There are too many jobs involved in the industry, not just in direct employment, but the car parks manufacturers as well. You will find that the current sporadic rhetoric from the Liberals will not be matched by the "policy" they will put out for the 2013 election.
