    Farmboy it is interesting you mention this because it is a fact and I have no idea why there is such a difference. Having done a personal import recently I know precisely what the costs are and they come nowhere near the costs difference between the US prices (and others) and the Australian cost of similar cars.

    For example a 911 Porsche is under $80K in the US and around $280K here. And before anyone jumps on the type of car, the same applies right down to a basic shitbox.

    Sure there is a luxury tax but that only applies to the component above $57K approx (and 33% of $20K is nothing like $200K lol.

    I cannot find anyone who can identify why cars here cost so much and with the import duty recently dropped to 5%, someone is making some huge profits. Of course you cannot import cars marketed here without having a massive equalising tax applied to protect the local dealers but why the difference in the first place is my question.

    So I would be most interested in what you think is the main reason for the difference.
