Mr Dutton said nuclear reactors would provide a more reliable source of clean energy, and would avoid the need for thousands of kilometres of new transmission lines to be built.

Yeah it's a nice idea in theory but will be difficult to implement.
First they change the laws of the land to allow nuclear development.
Second they train a nuclear workforce and establish an overarching nuclear bureaucracy.
(After the troubles in Europe caused by them deciding relying on Russian gas was a mistake France has decided to re-invest in nuclear but have to spend years training the specialist welders and other workers to get people up to speed after years of neglect)

Once that is achieved we'd need incentives for private enterprise to build the things. (Because they take so long to build and companies risk going broke due to cost over runs in Britain they decided to spread the risk to future customers by charging electricity customers today for part of future construction costs)

The Coalition plan relies on extending the life of coal and gas generators until the late 2030's and building on the sites of closed coal fired generators.
Which means the output of the closed generators would need to be replaced before commencement of the nuclear build which always run over schedule and over budget like our very expensive Snowy 2.0 power generator.

After all that I doubt if it will make electricity any cheaper for many decades to come.
Should be reliable though if they build the right ones.
