I think the gravy train will be here long enough for all of us to do quite well, there will always be advancements, but what and when are away off and then they would go through testing stages etc.

Some of the graphite technology is looking interesting but dont believe people like Tesla would bank his incredible worth on the gigafactory etc unless he had a good idea of expected timeframes for alternative technology.

Its a little like coal powered power plants, places like Poland still looking at start ups for coal fired power plants. It is known, the costs are measurable etc. So even with large advancements it will take time for large scale changes so I see nothing downside at this point in time.
