Kronos Worldwide raises titanium dioxide prices in Europe effective Wednesday October 14, 2008: 10:59 AM EST
NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Kronos Worldwide Inc., a maker of whitening pigments used in paper, paints and plastic, on Tuesday announced price increases Tuesday for titanium dioxide sold across Europe, effective Wednesday.
Prices for all titanium dioxide grades sold in western Europe will be increased by 150 euros ($206) per metric ton. Prices in eastern Europe, including Russia, will be increased by $120 per metric ton, the company said.
The increases follow price hikes announced earlier for those areas.
Titanium dioxide is used as a white pigment because of its brightness and is blended into sunscreens because of its highly refractive qualities.
Shares of Kronos Worldwide rose 54 cents, or 4.3 percent, to $13.12 in morning trading.
