Many articles out there re. the screaming global demand for cobalt outstripping supply. And the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo makes most of that supply precarious--accounts for more than 60% of world production. Civil unrest in the eastern mining district threatens production and all the more so now with the report of Isis in the district. Corruption also is a major threat with one major mine just shut down for what might be three years. The exploitation of child labour in mining also threatens the world market for that cobalt. Plus, the prospect of DRC cobalt being officially designated a "conflict mineral" is real. Especially worrisome is that one road through the rainforest carries most cobalt out of the country. This route hangs by a thread since a few rebels easily could put it of commission. What a perfect opening for Artemis cobalt!
