This is a slightly misleading announcement, as it implies that there is a risk of the Qld Government not approving the undertaking of an Environmental Impact Statement. The government (DEHP former DERM former EPA) involvement at this stage is typically through a pre-lodgement meeting where the company sits down with the DEHP and says we wish to do an EIS. The government either agrees with an EIS or says "no you don't need to because your project is small and it isn't required - submit an Environmental Management Plan instead"
To say the government "green lighted" the EIS process is strange. There is no assessment undertaken just the sketchiest of details provided - it is a mine (i.e Schdedule 1 activity and it is big) and we think it'll need an EIS.
