We as peons have no real control of the levers of government, which requires us to place a great deal of faith in those who speak and act for us.
I have no idea how you debeno, or others for that matter, take the words of politician during an election campaign but I take them as being part of a contract, I expect them to live up to that contract.
Those who do not live up to that contract in my view are frauds and liars and not to be trusted.
Semantics don't cut it with me, I don't have the time to analyze every word a politician spruiks to it's minutiae and nor should I be expected to.
