The appeals court decision is a big setback for Coeur because the company will now have to redesign the mine to place tailings in a storage facility built on land, as the company had once proposed in a 1997 plan that was approved by government agencies and not contested by conservation groups.

So there is a solution, but at a cost. Will the costs incurred still make the mine uneconomic or has the POS risen enough to allow the project o be profitable? The fact that they are progressing and spending more money indicates that it will be.

The BSG directors believe that the value of this mine, as reflected in the CDE share price, is virtually zero (I was told this during a phone call) so if it can be resurrected at the cost of a new tailings treatment method, then that's money well spent.

Disclaimer: I am not suggesting that BSG/CDE marriage (as I understand it) is a good deal, just trying to keep an open mind.
