While technically possible, the idea that all developed nations could wean themselves off coal in 10 years if they really wanted to ignores the realities of human nature. Self-interest, political agendas, and economic pressures will likely make such a unified and rapid transition extremely challenging, even with the best of intentions... this should be obvious when looking at what's happening in Germany...
