I think you are talking about UCG which created syngas which in turn was converted to liquid using the Fischer process. There were companies like Linc Energy and Carbon something during the time you say. Peter Bond showed us all at an AGM the liquid fuel that was used in his aeroplane to get to Brisbane. Unfortunately, environmental problems and the pilot plant at Chinchilla was apparently polluting underground etc. Queensland has banned UCG in Queensland. But i think it's legal in South Australia. Environmentalists are in control so it will never get off the ground now or in future. Linc was one of the best trading stocks. I was trading while driving many times. Even while playing golf.. It was insane back then. This happened for months.
