Dear Borano,
This week may or may not have been the last sitting week before the federal election. Coal Australia was in Canberra fighting for jobs, cutting red tape, and energy security.
We met with key politicians across the major parties, including Resources Minister Madeleine King and Hunter coal MPs Meryl Swanson and Dan Repacholi.

We also sat down with Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor, Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie and Shadow Environment Minister Jonathon Duniam. During our visit to parliament, what struck me was that we were one of the few groups not seeking funding for a project or a program.
As I told the Financial Review this week, our ask of government is simple: sensible policy settings that let our members drive national prosperity, pay taxes and employ thousands in well-paid jobs.
This is in stark contrast to the many carpet-strollers representing the renewables sector, who purport to speak for communities while seeking ever increasing sums of taxpayer funding to bankroll the ventures of their financial backers.
Much of that taxpayer funding has come from our members – in the weeks ahead, as the election campaign ramps up, activists will attempt to smear us as “big coal:”
- Coal Australia is a grassroots organisation, with our 50,000 (and growing) ‘Friends of Coal,’ backed by our terrific members and associates whose commitment includes keeping the lights on and building national wealth.
- There is nothing shadowy about who we are – we are proud supporters of coal mining communities and the work they do. A coal-ective of people who will stand up and fight for those communities.
Coal Australia’s ever popular range of merchandise even had a shout out in the Financial Review this week –
And speaking of growth, we’re thrilled to welcome:
✔️Danny McCarthy and the TerraCom team as producer members.
✔️Recently joinedassociate member partners: Mining Pro, Mitchell Services, Veldon, and Palaris.Next week, I’ll be in Brisbane as the Queensland Parliament kicks off for the year. Plenty more to do, and we won’t be slowing down.
Thanks for standing with us.
