You are correct. We know where all the coal in the world is located and pretty well how much and what quality. We won't get a sudden 'we found x billions of great quality coal'.
We could get a collapse in world economy or another Cheena Virus.
On the up side, every tonne removed makes the tonnes remaining more valuable and more expensive to mine. This especially applies to coking coal.
I assure you we did not over the last 100 years take the deepest, highest strip ratio, the thinnest seams, worst quality, lowest yielding coal, from the most environmentally sensitive areas.
    We did exactly the opposite.
Indonesia has 25 billion tonnes of all proven coal reserves. at current mining rate, that is about 28 years supply. Every year gets a little harder, Every year they mine more.
China 143 billion tonnes. About 40 years.
India a bit better but the worst, highest ash coal I know in the world.
India ranks fifth globally in terms of coal reserves, accounting for about 9% of the world's total coal reserves. At current consumption levels, India has enough coal to last approximately 111 years
