I think you may be mistaken.
The grant money is for the engine development based on the already successfully proven CHTD technology ie. funds to research a new use for the CHTD technology, not the CHTD technology itself.
Basically, Exergen require lots of brown coal and a larger autoclave structure to commercialise the CHTD tech and BCE product.
From my understanding, ESI's Coldry tech is designed to be commercialised through the use of waste heat from a power plant ie. attached to a power plant.
I appreciate the first stage of the DFT is now funded to get underway with this phase due for completion Q2 2012 at a cost of an anticipated $1 million.
Then Phase 2 and 3 will need to be completed requiring more $$$ (CR's I would assume) and, of course, much more time until Coldry can be "theoretically" proven to work commercially with a power plant.
Considering that, I certainly wouldn't say that Coldry is years ahead of Exergen. Period.
