    Hey Dino,

75% of seafood eaten in Australia is imported (Source: annual report Sydney Fish Market 2011).

The most commonly eaten "seafood" in Australia is the Pacific Basa which is not seafood. It is a farmed catfish from South East Asia.

Australia's Fisheries are being closed and restricted by the Labor Government and AFMA (Australian Fisheries Management Authority) for no scientific reason.

Australian fisheries are being closed and regulated into oblivion because of international green groups such as the Pew foundation.

Australian fisheries are being regulated into oblivion due to the anti-science policy of "the precautionary principle". Including the closure of the entire Coral Sea for no scientific reason.

All Australian Fisheries are fished sustainably by law, under strict biologically limited triggers and TAC's (Total Allowable Catches). Including the very few vessels which continue to work in the Coral Sea.

Australia is a massive country surrounded by the sea, with a relatively small population of about 23 million. There are so few fishermen/women and fishing boats left in this country we cannot supply our own population with seafood.

Europe feeds it's populations with seafood largely from the small Mediterranean Sea.

Intensive fish farming has destroyed large areas of Asia's delta regions, by turning these areas into muddy ponds for farming low grade Basa and Vannamei Prawns.

Much of the fish imported from countries such as Indonesia has been gassed with toxic Carbon Monoxide gas (A process which is illegal in Australia).

The healthiest and most environmentally friendly fish is Australian wild caught seafood.

Many unscrupulous sellers falsely label their fish as Australian.

Barramundi for example can be wild caught freshwater, wild caught saltwater, freshwater farmed or saltwater farmed (imported or local). Freshwater farmed is the worst, tasting muddy and soft.

    Seafoods ain't seafoods! Buyer beware!
