Just to keep this on topic....
Good intentions and emotive arguments aside realistically it would have been nigh on impossible to rear a baby whale by hand. The dudes that were planning to tube feed it cows milk - I'm sure that whale milk is a lot different to cow's milk in composition, particularly the fat content so very unlikely it would have worked.
and like someone else said - after it was weaned it would have required tonnes of krill a week to survive - these things don't eat fish.
