On P2, p6, P29 and p32 of The Australian today (18/6/07) Chip Goodyear set out BHP's blueprint to stabilise global (CO2) emissions. Center stage is clean coal technologies ... (that) safely and permanently capture CO2 from burning coal. "(BHP) firmly believes it must find a way to burn coal cleanly or risk losing ground in its efforts to avoid the worst potential effects of climate change" ... "I look forward to the challenge and I welcome the opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Underground coal gasification (ucg) is currently the most efficient clean coal carbon capturing technology. Google "ucg bhp" and you will find that BHP are looking at ucg and have been for a time. They are in the "mood" for collaboration and innovation and some time soon there is a good chance they will commit to a ucg partnership. In Australia there are just 3 players and one new listing.
Corporate interest is there.
