BBQ, imo high interest rates are more a hinderance than a help to the banks as it means more defaults.

I will credit Voltaire with drawing my attention to the similarities between now and the 1974 crash. Mostly folks around here speak in terms of 87 or 29 but conditions were very similar in 74 to today. The DOW tanked 45%....that would mean a tad under 7900 in todays market.

i was a teenager in 1974 but I remember having steak every night, going to private school and having an annual holiday at the beach.....and i am the oldest of 7.

Life will probably go on and it may take another decade but the US will probably rise again. But for now those in the gravest danger in the current market are the buy and hold types. Some wonderful opportunities may soon arise in the coming months.
