Collectable cars ( at least Australian ones ) are a good indicator of how the economy is going . Economy going well equals crazy collector car prices .

Good GT's , Monaros and Chargers are selling for around half of what they were pre GFC . Except for for the very rare ones .

While it's true a lot of these cars aren't very liquid , they do hold their value well . The trick is to buy a good car . It may seem more expensive at the time but compared to rebuilding one , it's a lot cheaper . A good friend of mind does it for a living and he has a million stories of people who have bought cheaper cars that end up costing twice as much as a good version .

The only trouble with a collector car such as a genuine GT is that you have to be very careful where you park it and where you keep it . Also , if it's a genuine low miler , driving it can hurt it's value .

I prefer the less collectable versions that you can drive everyday and that you can discreetly modify so that they are much nicer to drive.
