The verbal abuse the umpires received at half time and after the final siren had to be seen and heard to be believed, at every ground...mounted police and 2 others on foot escorting them off the ground...there was a few times i was extremely upset with the umpiring that i and others run down to the umpires race to give them a mouthful but when i got there i was stunned at the abuse being dished out and the spitting..it was viscous...Abuse was hurled everywhere in the late 60's early 70's...they were different times...
