I think that by now it is pretty clear. Glad you used the word potential. Original founders stuck to their comfort zones of mining, engineering and "a counting". Collecting business cards at conferences and a chat then to return home and wait for phone to call.
Within the comfort zone - Henderson, mining, some whizz bang electrical circuit to find graphene ore bodies in S.L., trial mining, then hoped that Universities could come up with something saleable. When Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard the serious graphene opportunities weren't there and soon after - neither were they.
