Yes it is a strange exercise to keep revisiting the past like it can be changed. It is good to learn the lessons but acting like one group of people would have behaved any differently than another is fruitless. The western civilisations were always going to over power less technically advanced groups. But then to go back and look through rose coloured glasses of those conquered peoples like they were loving each other ad nauseum and living in harmony with nature is just absolute rubbish.
