The HIV work done by BLT at the City of Hope was indeed promising, however, the Calimmune work is very similar and so it was a wise choice for BLT to spend their limited R&D dollars somewhere else. Also, the UC-Davies labs are working on an HIV treatment that is similar to the BLT trail. If any of these prove successful BLT still gets royalties.

In regard to your point on interferon, there are several lab studies that have shown how shrna can mitigate the affects of interferon in the diseases being looked at.
