Metgasco is caught in the middle of this:
The ALP’s Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliot have finally, officially, identified themselves politically with Drew Hutton and Lock the Gate. They have done this because they sense (know?) the ALP is going to be routed in September and this is the only way they can protect their seats. And yet, bizarre as this is, they can do this and still remain within the ranks of their own govt and its pro-csg policies.
What a shambles!
This is the Australia we live in.
The National Party and their candidates Andrew Fraser and Kevin Hogan are no better. They know csg is the single issue that is a danger to their election. By coming out in opposition to csg they can neutralize it as an issue until after they are elected.
NSW is the battleground for whoever wins Federal govt. So up here in derelict Northern Rivers we are astonished to find csg is now a major national election issue. And ahead of us lie 6 months and more of uncertainty on something so fundamental to the nation, so massively important as energy security for the nation.
We can only be observers and watch and wonder at the criminal idiocy of it all.
An analysis paper came out recently (NRMA) that Australia only has 3 weeks of oil reserves. 3 weeks! We are complacent in a world of bellicose uncertainties (China/Japan/USA) this is “last minute” policy gone insane.
Australia is sitting on gigantic gas reserves which could propel us to being the largest exporter of gas in the world and energy self-sufficient. The world is changing before our eyes. China is now a bigger importer of oil than the USA. Manufacturing is returning to the USA. They are cutting the size of their fleet in the Middle East.
What is tiny Metgasco to do?
I am a simple shareholder who knows nothing more than anyone else.
I say our finite capital should go on strike. We should do nothing to squander it. We must hoard it. We must do the bare minimum to satisfy whatever the license requirements are.
It is essential the Board is re-jigged to have people more politically savvy than them on it.
Because of the betrayal of all our politicians and their lack of leadership their hunger for power this has gone from being a local issue ramped up by a hard core of anarchists & militants here in the Northern Rivers (and swarming down from the foothills of the Border Ranges) to a national energy security matter.
The solution is for the new Abbott govt to take over all matters of national energy security from the States and, singling out as the reason, the pusillanimous treachery of the state of NSW
