    Yes, time periods and timing, contextually, do matter.

    Some people trade copper with metal dealers and recyclers rather than an exchange. Some countries have real problems with organised crime gangs ripping up their infrastructure to get at the copper and sell it. South Africa in particular.

    Way back in the 1970's some people stored petrol as an investment during the oil shock when car rallies where being protested about!

    All are alternatives to the mattress.
