Here are a few points to consider as to how long it should take to construct the Garden Island Micro Grid Project:
- EMC have been able to construct solar arrays in remote localities in relatively quick time. Much of what goes into building an array is containerised meaning that much of the work is done in the factory before being delivered to the site.
- The onshore infrastructure for PWEP is still there meaning that the desalination plant, water and energy grid connections are already established.
- Experience gained by constructing PWEP should mean faster deployment.
- No need for pipeline from array to onshore plant, replaced by electrical cable.
- As yet the type of foundations have yet to be announced but even if the go with the same as PWEP, the foundation work can be done in quite a short time using companies highly experienced in this field such as Fugro.
