The Broula King Joint Venture Pty Ltd Mine at Bumbaldry is moving ever-closer to a starting date for commencement of operations, estimated to be within the next two months when commissioning and Steady State production will take place before full production commences. The mine owners, Melbourne based firm, Resources Base Limited, which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, has been preparing the Bumbaldry site for a couple of years. In that time thay have transformed the old gold mine site (from the early 1900s) in to a modern, eco-friendly operation with the latest in technology to limit damage to the environment.

The companys Managing Director, Alan Fraser, visited the site this week and was very eager to show the Record how far they have come since work began. At the moment there are some six locals and 11 subcontractors includng local businesses Mitton Brothers and Makcrete working full tilt at the site. Other materials have been purchased from local business that is projected to inject some millions of dollars in to the local economy, and that is excluding wages.

Mr Fraser told the Record that at the end of the life of the mine in a few years, gold worth some $18m will have been extracted from the 17 hectare site. To put that in to perspective, that amount of gold would make approximately 1 cubic foot of pure gold.
