For fun I calculated the inflation rate myself over the last 27 years. When i was at school my mum gave me 90 cents to buy lunch every day.. Meat pies were 30cents and a fish and chips 60cents.
Now meat pies are $3.30 (im ignoring the fact they are smaller now.. since i forgot to weigh the chunky meat pie 27 years ago.)
I did a goal seek on my spreadsheet, and the real inflation rate has been 9.3% average for 27 years. So I believe the real inflation rate is a lot higher than the government would have you believe.
Does anyone know where i can see the declared rate of inflation for the past 27 years
