Great to see some common sense forward thinking being tabled finally. Lets hope that some of these infrastructure projects considered see the light of day and don't get side lined by tree huggers because it will upset some green tree frog's natural habitat.
This Government prattled on about the north about becoming a "food bowl", but have done zero, zilch about it except give lip service and expect some one else to pick it up. Problem is if someone did consider a new dam for water control and irrigation Labor's Green alliance and friends would kill it off immediately.
The project to pipe water from the Kimberleys has been tabled many times in the past. My recollection is Ernie Bridge an MP back in the eighties initially put the idea forward but was not considered as it was "too expensive". Well how expensive was the desalination plant at Kwinana! If a pipeline were laid 20 years ago it would have been paid for by now...
Just imagine if Charles O'Connor hadn't had the foresight and guts to design and contruct the pipeline to Kalgoorlie that many years ago, how much would that cost now!!
If we had the dam built on the Mary River in Qld as proposed by Labor Gympie probably wouldn't have flooded as bad again either, double win for all...more drinking water and flood mitigation all in one, but no that goose Garrett had his five minutes of fame to save a couple of Platypus.
Let's actually think about the people and population for a change and the future, all well and good to "Save The Planet", but at what cost to we that have to live on it? How can we take in more people, increase population as even this current Govt extolls, yet take no steps to ensure adequate supply of water and food?
