Assuming people of GC are idiots they would have been scared by what organisers said about traffic.
In reality:
You would have to be insane not to take a holiday and go away when you see 8 lanes of arterial roads diverted into 1 lane. Due to event road closures and Comm game lane closures. These arterial roads are link between M1 highway (Brisbane and northern GC and central/south GC/ Surfers Paradise).
On the normal day all these roads are painfully clogged up as it is and M1 is a parking lot 10km even before exit connecting to those arterial roads.
GC has a lot of canals so using back roads is not an option.
If people didn't piss off, you'd see what a disaster really looks like.
