Over the years I have had trading accounts with several smaller online brokers (e.g. HSBC), with whose service I was completely happy. One by one they have been gobbled up by etrade or commsec, leaving little real choice in the market.
Commsecs dismal performance, given their market share, should be an issue for the ACCC rather than ASIC. With only two very large players now dominating the online broker market, there needs to be some obligation for them to provide a reasonable level of service. Anti-competitive behaviour = cornering the market, then doing whatever you like and stuff the customers.
