Very true the reason for our visit in 2023 was to see my wife's extended family during Tet. Tet always poses a challenge, on one hand the country looks amazing as they decorate every city. Similarly we end up with tonnes of friends to catch up with as they all go back to visit their families.
Getting together with family is always a good laugh too. 2020 just as covid started we celebrated tet and a cousin from the US was over too with her husband. I cooked some curry to bring and he spoke fluent viet so smashed out karaoke. They absolutely loved seeing us embrace their traditions.
On the other hand you're paying a premium for flights and accommodation plus need to book well in advance. Also have the challenge of 70-90% of restaurants closing for a couple days or up to 2 weeks as they celebrate.
