I agree that ultimately it is a good idea to consolidate, what it does potentially do is compound your "paper" gains or losses, relative to your average buy price.
Eg.
Pre consolidation.
Buy average- 7 cents
Currently trading - 6 cents
Differential = 1 cent
Post consolidation
Buy average- 70 cents
Currently trading- 60 cents
Differential- 10cents
