Spain's Prime Minister-elect, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, has hit back at critics who say he has given in to terrorism.

American politicians such as House of Representatives' speaker Dennis Hastert have accused the Spanish of appeasement, for electing an anti-war government after the Madrid train bombings.

In a keynote speech to members of his Socialist Party, Mr Zapatero called such accusations "indecent".

He says no Spanish government will ever bow to terrorists.

"My priority is to fight every type of terrorism. Terror must know that it's going to find us all facing them and that together we are going to win...and I'm sure that I'm talking in the name of all the Spanish people," he said.
