I have just received the Annual Report and Notice of AGM for a company called Agenix Pty Ltd. The only problem is - I am not and never have been a shareholder in this company. A review of all contract notes recorded by the online broker relating to my HIN shown on the Proxy form also confirms no transactions involving Agenix so my account does not appear to have been hacked, nor has there been an error in a transaction on my part.
This incident may only be a one-off but it does give rise to question marks over how good the record keeping and information security is at either ASX, Computershare (who look after the Agenix share register), or CommSec (the broker through whom I hold the account shown on the proxy form). It also raises questions relating to the integrity of voting at company meetings if it is possible that non-shareholders are somehow ending up in a position of being able to vote on important resolutions.
