You are correct there has been allot of publicity over the years regarding opposition to the mine. There have been many Vocal Locals and also conflict around the mine development. However there has been equally as many announcements from New Talisman regarding the ways that the company is intending to approach the mining in the district.
Particularly and importantly around the conservation processes they have spent a good amount of shareholder money on .
This has been Including spending moneu on repairing current and developing alternate hiking trails, clearing historical problems ( vermin) , Planting additional indigenous vegetation which was damaged by previous mining operations prior to New talisman and Heritage Gold.
Conscientious mining by not just taking all the soil out and refining it above ground level,... but are very careful in what they extract, the way they intend to refine it , the methods implemented to ensure inert non environmentally damaging waste.
You don't see the picketers walking around thanking New Talisman for all the Improvements and reinstatements of the natural fauna and flora habitat the shareholders funded do you.
The company has spent a considerable portion of its funding in appeasing not only DOC but the Local councils as well.
The have played it above board all along and even though there is resistance they have proven themselves over and over again that they are working in a extremely environmentally conscious way.
All this costs money, ( Our money) those protesters are actually LUCKY, to have a company that is taking that approach and shareholders that also hold the environment dear. I don't see the council and DOC turning away all the money that is being spent off the backs of investors that is not even part of the MINING of gold , by this company.
WE do it because it is the RIGHT THING to do not because we want to toot our horns.
People make up their minds , and have no real information, but are ready to oppose any progress the company makes... because in their minds it is rich fat cats that are getting richer while pillaging the land.
What they don't know ( or may not realise) is that there is a huge amount of plain old mum and dad shareholders, that care, that took a punt at backing a company that actually has walked the talk.
Yes, it takes a long time but hearts and minds were never changed in a day.
Some people just don't get it ...and sometimes the frustration of shareholders do boil over as what happened at the AGM, As i stated previously it could have been handled differently, but in truth the Mine is taking all the "red tape " on board and are strictly working within the guidelines of everything they set out to do. ( albeit at a snails pace), So we deserve to see the culmination of a successful operation.
This is just my 5 cents opinion anyway.
@Fengels and @Crackity You are correct there has been allot of...
