I disagree, this is a better outcome. A product that looks all American is likely to generate better sales in America imo. Furthermore, what better way to break into the American market than via an American sales and marketing drive. The product is being bought, promoted and used but without all the overheads, sensational.
And in regards to base product... they would have to start the whole testing regime again. And it’s likely the deal struck with them has caveats to stop that anyway.
