I can't see how this can be wrong? Forgetting that some are posing the argument that a weighted average is the incorrect approach. I think you'll find that your looking at the already extrapolated number; you've already built in the same error.

It might be an error at all, happy to be proved wrong!

your weighted average flow should be for the average length not the total length of 867m. So if you used 14 trenches then the result is 867 / 14 = 62m @ 28.28m3/hour so 35m3 per 50m trench hour. A lot different from 8m3 which is more accurate as weighting is not correct in this case...
