Xstrata announced a couple of days ago it has confirmed its capex for the world class Las Bambas project. Have a read of 'Xstrata Confirms Capex, Timeline For Peru Las Bambas Copper Project' at http://au.advfn.com/news_Xstrata-Confirms-Capex-Timeline-For-Peru-Las-Bamb_55994458.html

Capex est $5.2 billion so it's a massive project and bigger than Los Calatos but it is interesting to compare figures.. MNC's mining options study due before end of qtr will greatly assist in these types of comparisons but just looking at some figures:

Las Bambas 1.710 billion tonnes at 0.6% copper (as at end 2011)
Los Calatos 1.34 billion tonnes at 0.47% copper

Las Bambas contained copper 10.3 million tonnes
    Los Calatos 7.7 million tonnes

Las Bambas is set to produce 400,000 tonnes of copper a year from 2015 for at least the first five years

Los Calatos around 100,000 tonnes (??? They are talking 20 million tonnes throughout per annum while open pit)

In looking at above bear in mind that I expect LC's capex to be much much less than Las Bambas (at least half?)

DYOR, and dont ake the above as read, for eg i havent included by products like moly, gold and as I said above when we know more about LC's costs etc then it will be easier to compare. Xstrata's run down of their project is at
