Churchill was at the root of Gallipoli, at the root of Israel, at the root of the fall of Singapore, sacrificed the Empire to save his prime ministership by entering the war - which handed the US economic dominance and led to most of the ghastly conflicts in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Yet he said "history will judge me kindly" which it did.
No other leader has had a more powerful influence on the most disastrous century in the history of mankind.
