    Now I'm confused !

"The federal government has pledged to return 50 per cent of the revenues made from the carbon tax to reduce the costs of petrol for households, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review." (from Business Spectator this morning).

    *************
If we introduce a carbon tax to try and reduce the level of carbon emitted into the environment, then why subsidise, and encourage, households to continue to use one of the biggest causes of air pollution??

Why not direct some of those funds to encourage the development of lower polluting forms of fuel like LPG?
