But here's a hot tip - if BRN tech is 3-5 years ahead of their competitors (and I'm pretty sure it was roughly 5 years ago, last time I was reading BRN patents that I noted had been cited by Qualcomm and IBM, among others that I cant recall, at the time, so I guess that might suggest we're now more like now 8-10 years ahead, but I digress...)

Back to your cute question, so if you're 3 to 5 years ahead of the competition and you secure patents that your competitors resort to citing and, 5 to 8 years later, they STILL haven't managed to commercialise an alternative offering to blow you out of the water then that would suggest that your IP has stopped them dead in their tracks and short of a takeover or negotiating licencing or similar commercial agreements, *that's* how you maintain your commercial lead if you have the superior product.

But, in words you can better understand, it kinda goes something like this:

BRN: "My milkshake patents bring all the boys to the yard!"
Customer 1: *to BRN Competitors* "It's better than yours".
BRN: *to BRN Competitors* "Damn right, it's better than yours. I could teach you, but I'd have to charge licencing and royalty fees and, you know, that kinda stuff."
