I contacted Admedus for comment on Foldax and this is the reply

There have been many “polymer” valves in the past and there are several kicking around at the moment - all have failed. Drs are skeptical as they really dont have the physical characteristics of a native valve (they may well function or co-apt but not to the level needed). This very early stage so we will need to wait and see with regards to results. The ideal product (as it turns out) is actually made of collagen as it mimics the characteristics of the native valve but with the “durability” and tissue science to give it the relative biologic profile of a synthetic. That is obviously the ADAPT single piece 3D valve.I am of the conviction that our technology meets the needs that others are trying to achieve. All noise on durability (which is what Foldax is selling here) only helps to increase a receptive environment for Admedus by increasing awareness of the problem.Neither Admedus or any of the major companies see Foldax as a threat in the medium term.
