Yes, I have been in IT industry since 1985 and I love technological things, I read and research all the time (have a mech. engineering background btw).
First of all as I told above (this was said by SOR on their anns.) UNSW has spent over two years developing the technology, it's not been cracked in couple of months.
I know very well that, University of NSW has great capabilities (they are ranked 26th in the world) for making this kind of research. They have a great accumulation of research and researchers at the top level. It has other departments working on similar technologies. It was posted here before that another team of researchers in UNSW are working on QUANTUM PROCESSOR (Australian National Fabrication Facility, Andrew Dzurak, the project's leader). They have have patented a new design, published in the scientific journal Nature on last week. "Australian researchers make quantum computing breakthrough, paving way for world-first chip".
The UNSW should not be underestimated. They are doing a world class job. It is said on the article; "As well as demonstrating the first quantum logic gate in silicon, we've also designed and patented a way to scale this technology to millions of qubits using standard industrial manufacturing techniques to build the world's first quantum processor chip." Watch the video here ; "Crucial hurdle overcome for quantum computing". Andrew Dzurak too says that they are looking for investors.
I can see that there is relation with what SOR's UNSW team and Andrew Dzurak's UNSW team are doing.
They are both working in nanotechnology and trying to replace the silicon transistor technology (which is the base of today's fundamental computer processor technology) with nanotechnologies. They might be swapping information as well. Who knows what they are going to bring up at the end.
I am still researching this RRAM technology, how it is done by HP and partners, and how it is intended to be done SOR. I can see some big differences.
