An update on the compounding chemist. I made some enquiries and found an online sports clinic (Performance Health Clinic) in upper coomera QLD. This is apparently a purely online based business rather than a physical located one. However Johnny who I had been emailing and messaging arranged for one of their doctors to write a prescription for my wife who has been diagnosed with moderate arthritis in both knees. We gave her weight and he arranged for the prescription for Pentosan Polysulphate to be send to the Ballina compounding chemist. The cost for the script, the medication and the syringes was all under $500. There was one vile of the liquid drug and we were instructed to inject twice a week for six weeks (0.5ml). I am assuming the dosage is similar to what is being tested (in the trials) which is 2mg per kg from memory. And the number of injections is also the same. However the script has a repeat and it was also mentioned that the duration could be extended? However I think we are going to stick with the 12 injections same as trials by PAR. Adherant and Mozz I would be interested on your thoughts on this? I was somewhat surprised that I manged to locate a doctor who would write the script as there does not appear to be many that will. And it was surprising too that we were able to do the entire coarse on of own as the only other doctor that was willing said that we would have to stay in NSW for the entire six week duration so that we could keep check on her incase there were any unexpected side effects. My wife is finding her injection sites get extremely itchy, warm, and swelling around the site for a few days. She is staggering the injection sites to minimise the effects on the same area. The only side effects she is getting at the moment aside the local irritation as far as we can tell (just completed six injections today) is lethargy/ tiredness. Has anyone else had these same side effects? She has been told by a nurse (family friend) to put the needle only about half way into the belly fat. So 3 weeks down and 3 to go. When can she expect to start feeling some results? I was under the impression it would be somewhere from the six week stage onwards?
I am excited to see how the medicine works and extremely hopeful for some positive results. I have asked my wife to document her pain on a daily basis in a diary before she started the drug so we could have something tangible to compare. I will keep you all informed.
