We are talking about the major consumption points which would be cities. Industry already uses CNG to run processing. There are natural gas pipelines running all over Australia and only a compressor station needs to be connected. Petrol is transported hundreds of kilometres in the outback, probably passing many gasfields on the way. The losers would be the oil companies and the governments' taxes. Not hard to see why we are still dependent on petrol and diesel.
