We don't have compulsory voting, we have compulsory attendance. Whilst compulsory voting might seem draconian in theory, in practice, it prevents foaming-at-the-mouth lunatics from whipping their base into a frenzy, pushing policies out to the extremes, and ending up wtih unsavoury outcomes - just look at the USA and ask yourself if that's the country we want to become.
